Overview
Setting up Stash in your payroll system is a simple, one-time configuration.
This setup typically takes less than 2 minutes.
Once complete, ongoing processing mirrors pension deductions.
Step 1 - One-off Setup in Your Payroll Software
Create a new net deduction code in your payroll software
This is usually located under additions/deductions
Select post-tax
Suggested name: “Payroll Savings”
Link the deduction code to employees who opt in to Stash
Run a quick test or “parallel run” to ensure:
The deduction shows correctly
Gross pay is unaffected
That’s it.
You only need to complete this once.
Step 2 - Each Pay Cycle
In the Grateful Portal:
Download your Tronc reports as normal
Payroll savings are outlined on a new additional column called "Savings Amount"
In Your Payroll Software:
Import or enter the savings amounts
Run payroll as normal - savings appear as a net deduction
Make a single bulk payment to the savings provider
This payment covers all participating employees, regardless of how many are saving.
Important Notes
Savings are post-tax
No impact on gross pay
No change to tip or tronc processing
No per-employee payment handling required
The process is structured and predictable, mirroring pension administration.
